BOAT DEK MAINTENANCE

Maintenance Tips

Keep Your BoatDek Looking Great

Maintaining your Boat Dek flooring is easy and straightforward. This section outlines simple cleaning and maintenance procedures to keep your flooring looking its best and performing optimally. Learn how to remove stains, prevent mold and mildew, and protect your investment.

General Cleaning
Regular cleaning can be easily done using Boat Dek Cleaner, water, and a medium-bristled brush. While Boat Dek is resistant to stains, substances like food, wine, fish blood, or grease may leave marks if left in contact for too long. To prevent staining, it’s best to clean or rinse away spills as soon as possible. For tougher stains, work the cleaner into the area using a medium-bristle brush.  If the stain is still present you can spot clean with isopropyl alcohol.

Cleaning Process:
Pre-Wetting: Thoroughly wet the area to be cleaned, ensuring it stays wet throughout the cleaning process to avoid the cleaner drying on the surface.
Starting Point: Begin at the bow and work towards the aft.

Cleaning Sections:
Port Side Bow: Wash the port side bow, then rinse thoroughly with fresh or salt water, ensuring all soapy water is flushed off the boat.
Side Decks: Clean and rinse the side decks, directing the soapy water off the aft.
Starboard Side Bow: Repeat the process on the starboard side bow, following the same rinsing procedure.
Starboard Side Decks: Clean and rinse the starboard side decks.
Aft Cockpit: Clean the aft cockpit and rinse off both sides and the swim platform.
Swim Platform: Finish by cleaning and rinsing the swim platform, if present.

Storage

Storing Your Boat Dek Premium EVA Foam

Boat Dek is highly resistant to most weather conditions and is designed to endure the elements while in use. However, to extend the life of your Boat Dek, it's best to keep your boat, kayak, or other vehicle covered or stored indoors when not in use. Boat Dek should be cared for similarly to vinyl marine seats, carpets, or other floor coverings. Prolonged exposure to sunlight and water can reduce the lifespan of your mats.

Dome-In Boat Dek
Boat Dek’s Dome-In Series should be treated like snap-in carpet. While the mats are designed to withstand getting wet during use or cleaning, they should not be stored in water or on a constantly wet deck. For optimal performance, store the mats snapped in place over a clean, dry deck and keep them under cover when not in use. If the boat will be stored uncovered and exposed to the elements, remove the mats and store them in a dry compartment or another storage area of the boat.

Things To Avoid

Things to avoid
Sharp Objects

Sharp objects like knives or tools being dragged across the surface, as they can cause damage

Pressure Washing

Pressure washing with extreme pressure or washing with the nozzle too close can shred or cut the Deck.

Petrol

Prolonged contact with petroleum based products, as they may cause stains that are difficult or impossible to remove.

Sunlight Damage

Sunlight damage
Light Amplification

Light amplification is a natural occurrence that can take place on boats. When sunlight reflects off surfaces such as windshields, polished stainless steel, or even the boat's gelcoat, it can concentrate in specific areas. This concentrated heat has the potential to cause damage to BoatDek over time.

Material Note

Does Your Boat Dek Have a Dent?

Don't worry! Boat Dek foam has memory properties. If you notice an indentation in the mats after removing a cover support pole or any other object that has been resting on them for an extended period, the mat will rebound to its original shape within a short time.
